What is True Light Yoga?
True Light Yoga is more than just a Yoga Studio located in Ocean City New Jersey, it is a wellness community focused on embodiment, authenticity and blissful living.
In her book, "How to Be the Love you Seek" Dr. Nicole Le Parra writes that our body is wired to connect with others. Our body's nervous system communicates with other people's nervous systems through electrical hormonal and energetic signals that we can't see but only feel. TLY is a group of people being that for one another. Aiming to bring body, mind, and heart back to regulation + joy through wellness offerings. These offerings include group classes, private sessions, workshops, retreats, and teacher trainings. Rachael O'Brien started and named TLY in 2022 but it had existed, in a way, long before its name.
We are a community of yogis practicing with the intention that while yoga is an ancient & sacred practice, it can still be light & fun while being transformative.
We, at True Light Yoga, stand in the belief of taking yoga beyond maintenance for the body, and into transformation for life. The practice of yoga can help us to become "unstuck" and create a life that feels truly authentic and joyful to us.
Our struggles as a country with the mental health crisis are at an all-time high right now. We believe at TLY that this practice + community can be the antidote. We aim to develop tools within the yoga studio, to take with us outside and help us to live an embodied life.
We move to learn, unlearn, & relearn.
Each person who comes to TLY and stays will attain a knowing that they belong, are not alone, and are better equipped to handle the stresses of life.
Mission Statement
After working for 15 years in emergency service and being in recovery for 8 years, I (Rachael Founder of TLY) have seen what we are up against in the growing mental health crisis around us.
There is extreme importance in this time to understanding the nervous system and reconnecting with our inherent bliss, which yoga has helped me to do. I believe no matter who you are, or how far you have gone, we can help you to come back to alignment.
Embodied Yoga, Conscious Community, + a joyful approach to life, are the tools I hope to offer in the growing mental health crisis we have in this world.
You will leave these classes with new connections + tools to help you with the stresses we all must inevitably face in this life. My mission is to help as many people as possible, to remember that life is to be enjoyed not survived.
I aim to teach Yoga that is graspable and friendly, that we can take into our lives + make tangible.
We put ourselves in uncomfortable and hard positions on the mat, and practice pausing, breathing, and responding with love, so that hopefully, when life inevitably puts us in uncomfortable and hard positions, we can pause, breathe, + respond with love.
It is my wish that through this practice, you can find your most
true & authentic self. Not become more like me, move like an ancient yogi sage, or talk and act like any other yoga teacher. But that you can connect with the truest version of yourself, your intuition, and your inner light.
The message of True Light Yoga is that we can release ourselves from the constant fluctuations and judgments of the mind, to find joy in this moment. We can release the idea of identifying as stuck, or as only the physical body, and connect with our highest self, the true self in the present moment, and make that key to our liberation.
True Light Yoga

Who is Rachael?
Hi All! I am Rachael, owner of True Light Yoga.
Thank you for letting me be the voice behind your practice.
My consistent journey with yoga began in 2012 as a means of rehabilitation for a knee injury that came as a result of over exercising. At the time I was binge drinking alcoholically, in the midst of an eating disorder, and completely stressed + disconnected from love.
The ways in which yoga not only changed my life but quite literally became my life, I never could’ve imagined.
Today, yoga has opened me to sobriety, leadership, adventure and true wellness that I could have never imagined.
I have now been teaching multiple yoga classes and private lessons a week since 2014. I have enjoyed investigating styles such as Vinyasa, Ashtanga, Kundalini, Yin, AcroVinyasa, Hatha, and many more. I’ve trained with teachers such as Matt Giordano, Dr. Carrie Demers, Honza and Claudine LaFond, and collected from many different beautiful souls along the way to create a unique blend of yoga in my classes.
I love to teach workshops on Inversions, Ayurveda in Yoga Practice, Ashtanga Yoga, Arm balancing, Acro Yoga, + more, but my true favorite thing is teaching our teacher training program and awakening the unique leadership within us all.
Whilst yoga is my passion, I have had many other careers that influenced my teaching. For 15 years I worked in emergency service as a firefighter/ EMT in Ventnor NJ + beach lifeguard in Margate NJ.
These jobs showed me the importance of a regulated nervous system + working in your purpose. I am so grateful to have been able to teach yoga for emergency responders and the importance of soothing your nervous system for PTSD recovery. The past two years I traveled + worked as a Barista (I love learning about + drinking coffee!), and became a certified CrossFit coach. I also enjoy surfing, snowboarding, and hiking with my dog soul mate Otto.
Within the realm of yoga I hope to help students bridge the gap between mind body and spirit. I want you to release the idea of identifying as only your physical body and connect with the highest self in the present moment to find spirit.
My aim is that you leave class feeling challenged, but also relaxed + empowered. I hope that you will leave your teacher training with me feeling extremely ready to command a room, and to share your passion + knowledge of the practice of yoga in your own authentic way.
It has always been a passion of mine to connect students with their TRUE intuitive nature and find power within their OWN voice. To listen to the inner light, even when it means sifting through the darkness, and with that in mind True Light Yoga LLC was born.
